Snap in the 605 and Go

The GPS car holder has an integrated GPS receiver to ensure fast geo-localization. Select your address and follow the instructions to arrive quickly to your destination.
Searching an address is simple: the assistant automatically auto searches for the location against the first letter entered of your destination, defined automatically from the database integrated into the GPS software.
Getting to your destination is easy with advanced signpost warnings and lane assistance options, which suggests the best choice of lane based on upcoming turns. When traveling through tunnels, your Archos GPS will simulate your direction and stay with you through exiting the tunnel.
Points of interest are pre-installed, offering all the information you need when travelling to your destination. Speed limits are displayed on the map on your GPS with advanced warnings to ensure your safety.
The impressive 4.3-inch high-resolution touchscreen of the Archos 605 Wi-Fi, together with the built-in amplified speaker, makes the product easy and intuitive. A built-in audio line out also is available, which will connect to an FM transmitter, allowing you to broadcast the sound through the speaker of your car radio.
The GPS receiver is equipped with a TMC receiver, allowing you to receive free traffic information. If you'd like more detailed information, a subscription service is available with our French, German, English, and American partners.
For those countries where legislation authorizes and where available, registered customers can download fixed speed cams information. The subscription is free of charge for the first year. Customer reviews
Maybe worth it if you don't already have GPS, otherwise... by .. Ian T. Bui ()
1. Map code is wrong. Customer support is clueless. Had to go online to find the right code. Took a week to get software working.
2. Can't listen to MP3s while in Navigation mode. Useless for long trips.
3. Cannot manipulate GPS functions while unit is not attached to holder.
4. Cannot suppress audio on unit even when an external audio cable is plugged into the holder. You have to plug audio cable into the Archos unit itself to shut up its (lousy) speaker.
5. Cannot output video via holder's aux port (to a car's headrest monitor, for example)
The holder itself is a pretty good mount though (but too expensive just for that function).
Bottom line, we're returning this thing and just buy a car mount from Arkon. We'll stick with Garmin for our GPS needs.
Bad Design-Lousy Packaging- by .. Diemtu Trinh (Allen, Texas USA)
- The GPS came with a mapcode that can not be used. If you call customer number support.
- The customer suport have no idea what is she doing with repeating telling me that the map code I have is wrong, it should have no symbol. The only map code I ever have is what ever printed on the disc, and yes the disc as the sleeve has nothing written on it.
- Once you got everything installed, the GPS heated the archos so much that we took it off.
and I got to update this review as the design is very lousy. The speaker keep going on as mention above, even you have audio output to the car speaker.
Now, we can not even use it as the Archos holder.
We are returning this product.
Poor route calculation by .. briancrc (Boston, MA USA)
Starting with the positives:
1. Nice display on 605 wifi
2. Holder works well
Negatives (*and these may possibly all be resolved with software updates):
1. Poor route calculation. Some suggested turns make no sense (e.g., turning off a street, adding distance on a different street, only to come back to the original street)
2. Takes a long time to launch GPS program
3. Difficult to navigate the menus
4. When using POI's (points of interest), cannot check the location of POI's with the same name before calculating a route (e.g., multiple Home Depot locations -- Which town is being targeted for the one that is selected?)
5. Cannot see the distance to a POI before calculating a route
6. Difficult to edit a via
Another fantastic addition to a device already abundant in features by .. Black Lemon (NY)
This Archos GPS car dock is actually meant to be compatible with future models in addition ot the 605, and includes grips for the upcoming models. It does a great job of adding thorough GPS functionality to the Archos 605. Installing the GPS software from the installation DVD onto the 605 is easy. You can also get traffic signal camera locations from an update on the Archos website. This GPS also incorporates real-time traffic into it's routing if you use the included TMC antenna and you get that info broadcast in your area. It has a built-in speaker so it doesn't rely on the 605s tiny speaker, but you can also use the line-out to your car stereo. It has all the features you'd expect from a standalone GPS. I commend Archos for continuing to add value to its products instead abandoning them for the new models -- the 605 is alread a DVR, a great media player, and a web browser. If you're thinking about getting a 605, keep in mind there's also a version already bundled with the GPS car dock.
Good if you live in the right country by .. Ahmed Abdelaziz Shalaby (Alexandria, Egypt & Kuwait)
I think this is a very good product with the exception of where you live or where you want to use it, for me I don't know if I will ever use it since I can't find any maps for the Middle East, another problem I faced is that I received the package missing the main cable needed to connect the Archos device to the GPS holder and now for me I have to buy another one as the cable is not sold separately Amazon refunded 20% to my account but still I am the one who lost
